Meet Dave Nettle
Dave Nettle, cofounder of the Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series, and often touted as one of the best storytellers alive, rounds out our 20th annual season with his presentation of "Backcountry Ski Touring - An Unconditional Love"
When Dave is on stage, he makes you feel as if he is a dear friend hanging out in your living room, sharing stories from his latest adventures. Equal parts humorous, educational, honest, and encouraging, he leaves you with the urge to travel, and the sheer excitement that only adventure can induce.Β
"Backcountry Ski Touring - An Unconditional Love"
Ask any backcountry skier to describe their idea of a perfect day and youβre bound to hear something along the lines of βa Bluebird day with deep, stable, cold smoke powder snow conditionsβ. Of course everyone would be stoked for perfect conditions all the time, however, if you truly love backcountry skiing then, like all relationships, you better be prepared for a mixed bag and embrace it unconditionally with patient and determined confidence.
Join Dave Nettle for a humorous and inspiring look at how wildly different ski tours can be when you apply the optimistic backcountry skier philosophies of βyou wonβt know unless you goβ and βno matter what the conditions are, you always get a good hike out of the dealβ. The best part about having an unconditional love affair with the wintery backcountry is that most of the time things do work out and you end up with a wonderful ski touring adventure shared with great friends.
Daveβs show will highlight a collection of images and stories from his trips and travels this past season in a variety of great, and possibly less than great, backcountry ski touring conditions. He will be taking you on a visually rich tour of select destinations, spectacular scenery and fun ski objectives from local North Tahoe day shots to four extended hut to hut ski tours in Austria and Switzerland that include the classic Silvretta Alps Route, the Urner Alps High Route from Andermatt to Engelberg, the Albula High Route from St. Moritz to Davos and the lesser known Berner Oberland West Traverse near Les Diablerets.
Dave's Nonprofit Beneficiary: Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association
The Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) believes that everyone should have free and affordable access to the outdoors. TCCSEA strives to reduce barriers by offering free trail passes to those under 19 and over 70 years old as well as offering year-round recreation programs that families can afford.
Tomorrowβs recreation relies on todayβs education. Starting with the youngest recreationalists (ages 4 and 5) TCCSEA programs educate all trail users about responsible land stewardship, appreciation of nature, and the importance of conservation.
Offering year-round recreation relies on Tahoe XCβs consistent trailhead presence. In order for staff, trails, and equipment to be ready and available when weather conditions allow, Tahoe XC has established a robust yet nimble year-round operating system that allows seasonal transitions to occur seamlessly.
Trail users come to Tahoe XC because itβs ideal for all 4 seasons of sports. Whether you cross-country ski, snowshoe, hike, trail run, mountain bike, enjoy wildflower walks, are learning snow science, or practicing outdoor safety, Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education likely has a program or clinic for you. The more people connect to nature and to one another, the happier, healthier, and safer our world will be.
