Experience “Patagonia: A Climber’s Journey” and Support TAMBA on Friday, 2/28
Tahoe City, CA— The 19th annual Winter Speaker Series , presented by the North Tahoe Chamber , concludes on Friday, 2/28, with series co-founder and mountaineer Dave Nettle, and his presentation of “Patagonia: A Climber’s Journey” . Enjoy the event in-person at the Palisades Tahoe Olympic Village Event Center, or livestream it from the comfort of your home via the Alpenglow Sports YouTube channel . Both options are free and offer ways to connect with and participate in the event. Doors open at 6pm for dinner from MOGROG Rotisserie, bar, and raffle tickets, and the show starts promptly at 7pm. The nonprofit beneficiary of the event is the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) .
The Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series blends two goals: 1) to inspire and motivate mountain athletes to pursue their own outdoor dreams and 2) to educate about, and raise funds for, non-profit organizations making a tangible difference in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee community.
Five times per winter, a premier outdoor athlete presents an inspirational tale of adventure, creating a forum for motivation, inspiration and education. Dave’s presentation will round out an impressive 2024-25 series lineup including Leanne Pelosi (the Scotty Lapp Foundation) , Kimmy Fasani (the Tahoe Waterman Foundation) , Greg Hill (the Courage Project) on 1/24, and Angela Hawse (Headwaters Science Institute on 2/ 7. From epic adventure storytelling to the raw, human moments behind the scenes, these shows offer something for everyone in the audience to connect with and are events the whole family can enjoy.
Each show is dedicated to a different nonprofit that has been selected through a rigorous application process, and to date, the Winter Speaker Series has raised nearly $2,000,000 for local organizations. Giveaway and bar proceeds, in conjunction with anonymous donations by the Donor Party, raise up to $75,000 per show for a local non-profit organization.
For the fifth and final Winter Speaker Series show of the season, Dave Nettle will recount some of his more memorable, challenging and humorous adventures and ascents from 30 years of climbing in Patagonia. From the iconic spires of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Poincenot, the Central Tower of Paine, and a present day expedition to Torres del Paine, he will bring the audience along on a medley of trips that explain why climbing in Patagonia is both an alpine climber’s dream and curse. Between perfect days on sun-warmed granite, to days, or weeks, with wind so violent it is called “the broom of the gods”, Dave will share everything that goes into making these trips happen (there may even be a hand drawn map or two!), the valuable lessons learned through these experiences, and why often the best thing you can do is laugh through it all.
Dave’s Winter Speaker Series show will benefit TAMBA, and their mission to build, maintain, and advocate for multi-use trails in Tahoe while providing education to all trail users and hosting fun community events. Specifically, this volunteer-driven nonprofit organization helps maintain over 100 miles of trail per year! You can support them at the event by visiting their table, purchasing drinks at the bar, and participating in either, or both, of the giveaways.
Thanks to the event sponsors as well as the generosity of many brands in the outdoor industry, there will be an in-person raffle for all attendees who purchase raffle tickets at the event, and an online giveaway for all tuning in from afar and who purchase online giveaway tickets. The prizes for each are different and you can enter BOTH! All in-person winners and the top three online winners will be drawn right before the show. The remaining four online winners will be drawn and displayed right after the event. All online winners will be contacted via email the Monday following the event.
Head over to Alpenglow Sports’ website to learn more about the event, register for the livestream (and receive a free entry into the online giveaway), and purchase additional online giveaway tickets.
