Meet the Scotty Lapp Foundation

The Scotty Lapp Foundation is dedicated to empowering youth by making skiing, snowboarding and skating more accessible to underserved communities and assisting athletes in reaching their full potential. The Scotty Lapp foundation is entering it's second year of Winter Speaker Series support and has made amazing progress thanks to the support of our community.

The first project of the Scotty Lapp Foundation is to build a skatepark in North Lake Tahoe that is a safe place for individuals and groups to challenge themselves, to encourage and be encouraged, and to set and achieve their own goals while learning to manage risk along the way. Skateparks can support hundreds of kids that might have nowhere else to go. It’s a place where people build healthy habits like self-directed exercise and creative expression, where people learn how to persevere and the value of persistence. It is a place to experience accomplishment and build confidence, is an attractive, accessible, and safe recreational facility for all, and a welcoming gathering space for skaters, families, and the entire community.

"After many heartfelt and passionate public comments in favor of the park, the TCPUD Board gave a unanimous YES to the TCPUD and Scotty Lapp Foundation using the parcel on Grove Street as a permanent location for the skatepark. The Scotty Lapp Foundation is busy working with it's entitlement team, TCPUD and local agencies on a path forward.

The Scotty Lapp Foundation will use this year’s donation from the Donor Party and proceeds from the Winter Speaker Series to go towards our final push of fundraising for the Tahoe City skatepark. If all goes well, we should be ready to start building in the spring of 2025."

On December 12th, 2024, the Scotty Lapp Foundation takes center stage as the featured nonprofit at Leanne Pelosi's Winter Speaker Series. 100% of food, beverage, and giveaway ticket proceeds support their mission! If you are looking to supercharge your contribution, please consider joining the Donor Party. The Donor Party, established in 2017, is the philanthropic arm of the Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series. This year, the Donor Party will raise nearly $500,000 thanks to the generosity of over 75 community-minded individuals make per-show pledges between $500 to $50,000.
